Make in India is in full swing as the country continues to perform wonders in the field of medical science. After claiming to have developed the world’s first Zika Vaccine, India has added yet another feather in its cap.

Country’s first ayurvedic anti-diabetic drug has been launched by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

The drug has been named as BGR-34 was launched at a function by CSIR’s Senior Principal Scientist Dr. A K S Rawat on February 3, 2016 in Kozhikode, Kerala. Usually, modern anti-diabetes drugs have several side effects, BGR-34 not only controls blood sugar and limiting the adverse effects of other medicinal drugs.

The ayurvedic drug has been successfully developed by CSIR in collaboration with the National Botanical Research Institute and Central Institute for Medicinal and Aromatic Plants. The medicine has been designed for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and has been scientifically validated for consumption.

Diabetes, which was once an old man’s disease has now even started affecting people between the age of 30 and 45. India is one of the top countries along with China and the United States. Around 6 crore of the adult Indian population suffers from diabetes. Also, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is quite common with hardly any effective solution for it.
