Healthy snacks quietly causing weight gain

Your lifesavers, the so-called good old healthy snacks are actually making you fat. Consumption of cereal bars, low-fat biscuits, and fruit smoothies may not be a good idea after all. Those tetra pack fruit juices and other snack items are doing you more harm than providing any kind of health benefit.

As per Sarah Schenker, a nutritionist quoted by the Daily Mail, instead of banking on these healthy snacks, people should know how good the food items are. When cooking meals, one must ensure to choose low-energy releasing foods and not the ones that boost your energy temporarily.

Schenker suggests replacing the cereal bars with peanut butter toast. Smoothies are not a good idea as they contain a lot of fats. Thus, plain milk is always a better option as it is loaded with calcium and contains no sugar at all. Similarly, low fat biscuits, which contain ounces of sugar should be swapped with sugarless oat cookies.

The concept of snacking in between sets back the human body and promotes weight gain. However, it is always better to snack on healthier food options. For instance, instead of consuming fruit juices, it is a better idea to switch to coconut water. Not only does coconut water contain less sugar, but it also keeps your body hydrated.

While healthy snacks are considered to be healthy, the bigger picture has a different story to tell. It is always safe to consume foods that have a high nutritional value instead of banking on food items that can only make you fat.
