Fruits and vegetables have always been in vogue for being health powerhouses. While one doesn’t need more evidence to know how healthy these magical food items are, only a few of us eat them.
A new study published in the British Medical Journal states that flavonoids present in red fruits are responsible for the most weight loss.
Anthocyanins, which are usually found dark red coloured foods including grapes, cherries, strawberries, blueberries are directly linked to lower weight gain.
Apples and tea also contain flavonoid polymers, which further help in weight loss.
Flavonoids are natural compounds, which are usually found in fruits and vegetables. These have a protective effect on their host plants. Flavonoids found in foods increase the calorie expenditure and reduce the fat absorption.
While consuming these food items may not have a striking impact on your weight, but it will inevitably play a major role in the weight management process. These days, most adults are facing the problem of weight gain and this change in diet may prove to be positive for weight watchers.
The researchers of this study hope that this point may be considered by nutritionists when recommending dietary changes for the ones who suffer from obesity. Only adding a few food items containing flavonoids including red fruits and pears may have a magnified weight loss effect.
