Born in Summer? Your lungs may be less vulnerable

Staying cigarette free and living a life away from pollution may be doing your lungs a huge favour helping them to stay pumped up and working for a longer period time.

However, there are other things too, which are contributing to the good health of one of your vital parts of the body.

The season, which you were born in also makes a great deal of a difference. As surprising as it may sound, if you were born during the chilly wintry conditions, your lungs may be older than the ones who were born in the peak of the summers.

The parental smoking history also explains how long your lungs are expected to live. Also, if you have suffered from a severe respiratory illness/infection anytime during your childhood, your lungs may be aging faster in comparison to others who haven’t faced any such problem.

A study, which was published in a journal PlosONE, has revealed that the season you were born indirectly affects the life span of your lungs along with the above-mentioned factors. According to Cecile Svanes, a professor at the University of Bergen (UiB) in Norway, early life development affects our ability to tolerate exposure to certain toxins in later life.

The study, which was focused on people aging between 40 and 70 years of age, reveals a lot about the aging process of one’s lungs. Not only does the exposure to these factors result in a speedy decline in lung function but it also eventually means that you are even aging faster.
