We’re often quick to associate the word ‘fat’ with dieting, fitness, workout, and other health routines. We blame fat for all the flab on us. But very few people make the extra effort of understanding the difference between good fats and bad fats.

Experts agree to the fact that moderate consumption of healthy fat is in fact important and beneficial for the human body. But excessive intake of any kind of fat, be it healthy or unhealthy, often causes problems. Healthy fat can be found in clarified butter (ghee), avocado, olive oil, and grass-fed meats. Unhealthy fat is found in processed foods containing processed vegetable oils, fast food, conventionally processed meats, and of course everything that is deep fried.

But the idea is to strike a balance and continue consuming fat. Simply speaking, fat is good for you. You got that? Fat is really good for you. We give you five good reasons to consume more fat.

It fills the gap between meals

Digestion of fats takes time. This allows you to skip those ‘in-between’ snacks and munching. Hence, it is advised that you pair up your daily meal with a few healthy fats. They’ll healthy all the same and are also important in keeping you ‘full’.

Fat makes food tasty

Between steamed vegetables and butter sautéed vegetables, butter sautéed veggies win every time. Similarly, anything prepared in olive oil has a unique aroma and taste. Healthy fat items can improve the taste of your food and everyone knows it. But one has to draw a line between healthy fat and unhealthy fat.

Healthy fats important for hormone production

Hormonal balance is extremely crucial to our overall health and even weight loss. Hormones facilitate and in fact control every function in the body. And how are hormones created? They’re created with the combination of healthy fats and cholesterol. Hence, a complete diet with the right amount of healthy fats is essential for hormonal health.

Facilitates vitamin absorption

Vitamins depend on fats when it comes to absorption. Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, and Vitamin K are known as fat soluble vitamins and require fat as a carrier. Simply speaking, fats help in the absorption of certain vitamins. So the next you stack veggies for a healthy meal, be sure to garnish them with a bit of good fat.

Fats help minimize inflammation

Omega-3 fats are known as inflammation fighters. They carry anti-inflammatory benefits for the body, including the brain. Chronic inflammation often troubles us in different ways. These include brain fog, joint pain, fatigue, and bloating. Introduction of healthy fats (say Omega-3 fats) in your diet can help you control or decrease inflammation.
