Winter storm slams Midwest in US

Snow in MidwestWidespread heavy snowfall has engulfed Midwest region in US. The havoc has been caused by Snowstorm Linus which has now moved to Northeast and is expected to further move on to Canada. The snowstorm has resulted in historic amounts of snowfall.

The heavy snowfall has rendered Linus the credit for receiving third biggest snowstorm on record. The amount of 16.7 inches of snow was recorded at Detroit’s Metro Airport.

Meanwhile, 19.6 inches of snowfall was reported in Plymouth, Indiana 19.3 inches in Chicago. With this, Chicago also recorded its fifth largest blizzard.

However, Chicago's public transit system was not hit and remained operational with some delays. Travel bans were also not put into effect.

As per local media reports, nine people have been killed so far in snow related accidents. Thousands of flights have also been delayed due to inclement weather conditions.

Boston is also likely to witness another round of massive snow, which could amount to record breaking numbers.

Snowstorm Linus has also battered New York before travelling to Midwest. However, it did not had as severe impact as anticipated. USA, at present, is experiencing extreme weather from snow in the northeast to drought in California.
