Winter storm Olympia will move from the Midwest and South towards the Northeast US, bringing in snowy conditions across the region for the start of this week.
A number of weather advisories like winter storm warnings and freezing rain advisories have been issued by the National Weather Service for the entire region. The snowfall from winter storm Olympia has been occurring since Sunday night across many states in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic. The snowfall totals have been less than five inches in parts of Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia and North Carolina. While snowfall has been heavier with more than six inches accumulation over South Dakota, Kentucky and West Virginia during the weekend.
This winter storm will track through parts of the South and mid-Atlantic through Monday. On Monday snow will occur in Lower Hudson Valley and southern New England. Moisture will interact with subfreezing air near the lower levels, leading to the possibility of freezing rain and sleet for some time from parts of southern New Jersey and southeast Pennsylvania to Virginia to most of North Carolina, northern South Carolina and northeast Georgia.
On Monday night into Tuesday significant snowfall will occur west and northwest of the I-95 corridor in the Northeast, from the Appalachians to western Pennsylvania, western, central and Upstate New York and northern New England.
