Winter Storm Niko: A foot of snow for six states of US, snow records brokenWinter Storm Niko, the biggest for the Northeast United States this season has resulted in blizzards, heavy snow, and gusty winds over many areas. As per reports, the storm has even claimed a life in the upper east side of New York.

Flooding has also been reported in coastal parts of Massachusetts, Plymouth County, Hingham, and a few adjoining areas. A pressure drop of 24 millibars was also witnessed in a span of 24 hours resulting in Niko undergoing a bombogenesis.

There were extreme snowfall rates at times with the range between 1 and 4 inches per hour. Three inches per hour for two hours was witnessed at the La Guardia Airport in New York City. At least 13.7 inches of snowfall was observed in New York city which has been the highest since the year 2013.

As per reports, at least a foot of snow was recorded in the states of New York, Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire. In fact, some record snowfall was also reported in a few areas.

Gusty winds up to a whopping 71 mph was reported in the state of New York. A record snowfall was observed in Pennsylvania of 120 years. Other areas including New York and Binghamton also broke snow records.
