The first storm will move in from the Atlantic and cause good rain across France, Spain and Portugal on Friday. The second storm will move in a similar way and affect the same region from Friday night into Saturday.
Precipitation across the French Alps will be in the form of snowfall which could amount upto 3 feet.
While steady rain is likely to fizzle out before reaching Spain’s eastern coast, there will not be any break between the spell of rainfall for southwestern France, northern Spain and northern Portugal. This persistent rain will increase the risk of flooding in Bordeaux and Toulouse, France, Santiago de Compostela, Spain, and Porto, Portugal.
The heaviest rain amounting upto 150 mm is expected to occur in parts of northern Portugal and Spain. Mudslides and travel disruptions are possible. The people in the region have been advised to take precautionary measures.
While flooding threat will be present for the southern region, the risk of damaging winds will be the most in France on Saturday. Parts of France could experience wind gusts of upto 120 kmph. These winds will be strong enough to cause power outages and tree damage. There is possibility of trees being uprooted due the saturated soil. Driving condition will become dangerous and flight delays are possible. The seas will also be rough.
The stormy condition will not come to an end on Saturday evening, as yet another storm will affect the region on Sunday. The Sunday’s storm will bring in cold and blustery conditions. This will result in a significant drop in temperatures.
