WEATHER ACROSS THE CONTINENTS

Continents are generally understood as huge masses of land separated by expanses of water. Continents could be extended beyond the major landmasses in order to include every piece of land on the earth’s surface in one of the seven continents.

Without going into the detail of its definition, in this article we will analyze weather conditions across the continents.

From largest to smallest in size the continents across the globe are: Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe and Australia.

Asia

A diverse climatic condition throughout the year in Asia could be attributed to its location on the globe. The southeast area remains moist whereas the interior generally stays dry. The western part of Asia is known to have extremely high temperature while monsoons are seen in eastern and southern areas because of the Himalayas. Siberia being the coldest place in Northern hemisphere leads to the formation of arctic air masses for North America. Southwest section of Asia remains hot and experiences the highest number tropical cyclones somewhere in between Philippines and Japan.

Weather in Delhi- In India, winter has set in. At present, maximum and minimum in the capital city Delhi are hovering around 25°C and 18°C, respectively. Clear skies and low humidity levels suggest absence of rain in the offing.

Weather in Moscow- Moscow in Russia is shivering under freezing temperatures. Maximum here is -2°C while minimum is -7°C. A generally clear weather and low humidity levels is the forecast for next few days.

 

Africa

Africa is not much a favorite among travelers because of its killing dryness and flooding rains. East Africa witnesses dry weather conditions from December to February/March and again from June to October. Rainy season is observed in between these two periods. In West Africa, the dry season starts from October/November and stays till April/May. Moving towards southern Africa, it is hot from May to October and experiences rainfall from November to April. It is a good time to visit this continent during the cooler days i.e. from October to March.

Weather in Cape Town- Presently, day and night temperatures in the city are 23°C and 14°C. Weather is warm and moist as it lies in the Southern Hemisphere.

Weather in Cairo- The range of day and night temperature is hovering between 26°C and 16°C.  Cairo is also experiencing warm and humid summer days.

 North America

North America is the third largest continent in the world. It stretches between equator and the North Pole and thus, hosting a varied time table of weather. It offers diverse climatic zones including ice packed Greenland, hot savanna and tropical rain forests. The interior regions are crafted by desert and semi-arid climate cut off by westerly winds moving over the high mountains. North Alaska and north Canada experience sub-arctic climate. Generally, a temperate climate prevails in most of the region making this continent good for agriculture and living.

Weather in Washington, D.C.- Washington, D.C. is the capital of the United States. Minimum temperature has reached -5°C while maximum is at 0°C. A clear weather could be interrupted by patches of rain.

Weather in New York- Similar conditions in New York with maximum and minimum at -1°C and -6°C, respectively.

 South America

South America is a large continent influenced by ocean currents and winds. Hence, variation in climate is large but, generally it is hot and wet. On one hand, Amazon basin remains hot and wet with temperatures around 20°C to 30°C, whereas the Andes remain cold throughout the year. Gran Chaco in Argentina is said to have recorded the highest temperature of 43°C, in South America. And, Quibdo in Columbia is the wettest part with annual rainfall of about 350 inches.

Weather in Sao Paulo- Itis the largest city in Brazil and also South America. Maximum here at present is 24°C while minimum is 14°C. Warm and humid conditions are likely to prevail in the city for next few days.

Weather in Buenos – Buenos Aires is the capital and largest city of Argentina. It is also the second-largest metropolitan city in South America, after Sao Paulo. Presently, day and night temperatures in the city are 30°C and 22°C.

 Antarctica

Antarctica is not in the love list of tourists but this exotic place has a lot to offer. During winters, the continent is packed with ice resulting in extreme cold and round-the-clock darkness. November witnesses sunlight with warm summer season when ice bricks start melting and birds like penguins come out for courting and mating. Austral summer is experienced in December and January with 20 hours of sunlight.

Europe

Europe has extremes of hot and cold season. June to August, the continent seems to be busy tourists making the warm place even hotter. France and Italy are some of the few countries, which are almost dead and silent during August as most people are out for vacations.

During December, places like Prague or Paris seem to be buy with Easter eggs, Christmas market and New Year parties. Scotland, Switzerland, Scandinavia are some beautiful places to visit in winter and enjoy the chilling snowfalls. Visiting summer destinations like Greece in winter can help you shop costly things at cheaper prices. May, June and September are the best months to visit Europe.

Weather in London- London is in thick of winters with maximum and minimum at -5°C and -11°C. Cloudy skies with snowfall seem the order of the day.

Weather in Venice- Venice generally witness milder winters as it is closer to the equator. Day temperature is hovering around 13°C and minimum around 7°C.

 Australia

Australia features a moderate climatic variation but sometimes may witness drastic changes. Towards the north is the monsoon belt which experiences limited seasonal change i.e. hot and dry and hot and wet. Here, the dry season is observed from April to September whereas the wet season stays from October to March. On the other hand, the southern part of continent sees cold winters and pleasant or warm summers which might get hot sometimes. The central area is often hot during day but chilly cold at night.


Weather in Sydney- Located on Australia's southeast coast along the Tasman Sea, Sydney is the financial capital of the country. With partly cloudy skies, maximum and minimum are hovering around 25°C and 18°C, respectively.

Weather in Perth- November is early summers for Australia. Maximum in Perth is 24°C while minimum is 14°C. Intermittent rain cannot be ruled out as well.
