Very Severe Cyclone Hikaa to give rains over parched Saudi Arabia, Yemen to see showers too

September 24, 2019 4:23 PM |

Cyclone Hikaa

Cyclone Hikaa has intensified into a very severe Cyclone today and continues to move in a west-southwest direction. While the Indian mainland has no threat from the Cyclone whatsoever, Hikaa is moving towards Oman and is expected to make landfall tonight.

During the time of landfall, Hikaa is expected to see some weakening and move inside the country as a Tropical Cyclone resulting in flash floods, heavy rains and very strong winds over Oman with the coast witnessing even heavier rains and storm surge up to 20 feet in some parts.

After crossing coast, Hikaa will continue to maintain the intensity of a storm even while it goes inside. In fact, within 24 hours of landfall, Hikaa will reach the tri-juncture of Oman, Yemen and Saudi Arabia.

Thus, in view of the weather system, rains will also make an appearance over Saudi Arabia which is an arid region. Saudi Arabia does not see Monsoon or any such significant rainfall activity unless it is for a Cyclone which does form in the Arabian Sea and moves towards Oman affecting the nation as well.

Meanwhile, good rains will also make an appearance over Yemen which is not very far from Oman.
