Vardah remnants give rains over Somalia, Yemen

December 19, 2016 1:19 PM |

Somalia Yemen

After pouring heavy rains over several areas of Tamil Nadu and its capital Chennai, the remnants of Cyclone Vardah has crossed Southeast Arabian Sea as a low pressure area. The system has gradually intensified into a depression and is seen moving in a westerly direction towards Somalia coast.

Before hitting the coast, the depression has already weakened into a well-marked low pressure area. As this system has moved far away from the Indian coast, rains have significantly reduced over the Indian region.

At present, the system is pouring moderate to heavy showers over the northern parts of Somalia. Cities such as Hafun, Bargal, Bereeda, Alula and Hordio are witnessing good rainfall. We can expect moderate showers with isolated heavy falls to continue over these areas for the next 24 hours as well.

Gradually, this well-marked low pressure area will weaken further and move in a west-northwest direction towards Yemen. With this, good rains can be expected over many cities of South Coastal Yemen during the next 24 hours.

During the same period, places such as Aden, Al Mukalla, Majdahah and Abyan may also observe light to moderate showers.
