Extreme weather condition is the forecast for the United States this weekend. While the Northeast will experience snow storm, California in the Southwest is going through drought conditions.
Snow storm
A storm developing over Texas will spread a swath of disruptive snow, ice and rain from the Plains and Midwest to the East this weekend. Snow covered roads stretching from Colorado to Maine could create a slew of travel problems. Airline delays and probable flight cancellations can’t be ruled out as well. However, this storm will be a warmer one, which will draw moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and later the Atlantic Ocean. This could result in a long swath of heavy precipitation.
Snow accumulations will trouble people around Columbus, Pittsburgh, Allentown and New York City. Snowfall is expected around Denver, Wichita, Kansas City, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Boston and Portland.
Dangerously cold temperatures
Consequently, winter seems to be unrelenting across the Midwest and Northeast with yet another blast of arctic air rolling in and spreading deep into the South.
This next push of arctic air is expected to bring air that will be colder than the air that brought sub-zero lows to the Midwest and Northeast during last weekend.
California Drought
While chilly weather has enveloped the northeastern parts of the U.S., entire western half of the nation is witnessing phenomenal record warmth. Lack of cold and snow has been exacerbating California's severe drought condition.
According to the California Department of Water Resources, at present California's snowpack is just 27% of normal.
