The French Ski resorts were once, the world’s top ski destination. However, poor snow in France has only resulted in bad news and in no time, the United States is the world’s favourite ski destination in the 2015-16 season.

As per local French news sources, less snowfall across parts of Europe was one reason that lesser number of skiers were seen in the French mountains. Both the US and France have competed for the top spot since a long time.

According to the data from the French ski industry authority, Domaines Skiables de France (DFS), while the US enjoyed 53.9 million 'skier days', the French were slightly behind with 52 million. This is about three percent less in comparison to the past year.

The United States held the top spot from 2008 to 2011. But, for the past four years, since 2012, France has been fiercely boasting the top spot. This year, good snowfall in the States has resulted in their victory. The French have blamed the visitor slump on bad weather conditions.

However, France continues to be the top ski destination in Europe. Numbers had seen a drop in the third most popular destination in the world, Austria as well. The country ended its ski season with 49.9 million which happens to be 4 percent below last year.

However, the coming season may bring some good news for the French as US visitors are likely to increase due to the favourable exchange rates. For now, the United States can enjoy the top spot.
