Up to 3 inches of rain likely to batter San Francisco

Meteorologists say Bay Area won’t stay dry any longer.

Three separate storms are expected to approach San Francisco from Wednesday through Sunday, giving up to more than 3 inches of rain across the region.

The first storm will hit the region amid midday Wednesday, bringing gusts as high as 40 mph by night and also up to an inch of rain.

Temperatures will remain the same, with minimums hovering in the upper 40s and maximums in the mid-50s before the second storm hits San Francisco by Friday.

The third storm is expected to strike early Sunday. This will bring more than an inch of rain across the region.

Between Wednesday and Sunday, San Francisco and Santa Rosa could get around 3 inches of rain. San Rafael may witness 2.78 inches of rain, followed by Napa where 2.23 inches can be expected, just a little over an inch in San Jose and 1.75 to 2.11 inches from Monterey to Big Sur.

Each of these storms is expected to be less severe than the series of fronts that had hit the Bay Area last week. The fronts caused flooding around the Russian River in Guerneville and landslides in the Santa Cruz Mountains and Big Sur area.

The Russian River is expected to rise once again up to about 26 feet by Thursday morning; it is not expected to pose a flood risk this time.

Strong winds along with rainy spells may bring about the usual problems of downed power lines and uprooted trees.

Low-lying areas and smaller streams and creeks in Marin County could challenge their banks on Sunday; however flooding is not anticipated this time.
