More frequency in the number storms expected, so more active year ahead!

To prepare the country and to avoid any further confusion, United Kingdom met department and Irish met service have released the list of storm names for the year 2016-17 on Monday.

In the period of 2015-16, 13 storms were named including the two post-tropical cyclones from the Atlantic Ocean.

Weatherman and Met officials are expecting an active season in terms of number of storms that will hit the region. The 15-18 forecast storms name includes the threat for impacts from multiple post-tropical Atlantic cyclones.

Even with an active & stormy season expected in the year to come, the more poignant danger would be the windstorms that will start lashing the region in October and from December to February.

Strong and more frequent storms are likely to lash the region from mid-December to February. During this time period, multiple named storms could unfold within a single week's time.

Pre-season storms or storm at the start of the season are most likely to impact Northern Ireland and Scotland. But in winters the storm path will shift towards south bringing in the threat for flooding rainfall.

The names were picked from social media suggestions to the Met Office, along with names provided by the Irish met service.
