The stage is getting set for widespread snowfall across UK and Ireland Wednesday through Thursday. A severe cold front is likely to move across the British Iles in the wee hours of Wednesday, this will be followed by a rush of cold air along with a moisture incursion drifting from the Atlantic. Their combined effect will be intermittent rain and snow showers all along the UK and Ireland on Thursday.
The higher terrain of Ireland and especially Northern Ireland and Northern England including Wales will bear the brunt of the heaviest snow. Snowfall ranging between eight to fifteen cm are likely in these areas with localized falls exceeding 15 cm in some higher reaches. Strong winds along with snow will create almost blizzard like conditions across the higher elevations when the cold front will reach its highest intensity. Even in places like Dublin and Liverpool which have lower elevations an inch of two of snow is possible. In London, snowflakes mixed with rain showers are expected on Thursday morning which will be followed be another spell on Thursday night.
Throughout the British Iles blustery winds gusting between 55 to 80 Kmph on Wednesday and around 100 kmph on Thursday will make the life difficult along the west coast. With this kind of wind speed downing of trees and power outages at few places are not ruled out. The wind chill factor will turn actual temperatures of 5°C to sub-zero real feel temperatures.
This will be followed by another round of snow showers during the weekend across the British Iles.
