Indian summer is likely to continue for U.K, as residents reel under intense hot temperatures witnessed ever in U.K.’s history. The country has witnessed the warmest and driest September since 1959. The inclement weather is likely to continue till this weekend and thereafter some light rain will bring relief in some parts.
Many parts of the country witnessed less than 20 mm of rainfall for the whole of September. Only three-quarters of an inch of rain fell, which is just 20% of the average amount for this time of year.
While England received rainfall of 14 mm and Wales received rainfall of 12 mm, the rainfall was single digit of 7 mm for Northern Island. Northern Island received only 7% of monthly average rainfall, leaving Northern Island the driest since 1910.
Dry Due to
The dry spell had been caused by an area of high pressure which had dominated the UK's weather throughout September. Secondly for most of the September, the jet stream had been moving north of U.K. causing hot weather.
October Outlook
However, the jet stream is expected to move Southward in October and bring some light rain showers over many parts of U.K. Light rain showers are expected to wipe out the spell of sweltering heat.
