Just about a few days ago, Typhoon Meranti had wreaked havoc over Taiwan. The country was recovering from the blow when another typhoon caused much more damage. Typhoon Malakas has throttled Taiwan with heavy rains and gusty winds.
The typhoon has caused much damage over eastern and northern parts of the country. Due to severe weather conditions, around 183 flights have been cancelled. Most of these flights were scheduled to or from China. Thus, at least 20,000 air travellers were alone affected.
Not only has Malakas caused air travel disruptions but both road and water transport also took a beating during the last 24 hours. As a precautionary measure, more than 2500 people were evacuated in four counties in Taiwan.
Now, Typhoo Malakas has begun to weaken in the East China Sea. Gusty winds from the typhoon were reported on Saturday over the Ryukyu Islands. Now, Typhoon Malakas is heading towards Japan and it is expected to continue to weaken.
During the middle of the week, heavy rains are expected over several parts of Southwestern Japan. Rainfall amounts may range between 8 and 12 inches during this period. Malakas is most likely to weaken into a category 1 typhoon once it hits Japan.
