Typhoon Halola heading towards Korea Strait and Japan

July 24, 2015 3:20 PM |

TYPHOONS IN WESTERN PACIFICTyphoon Halola seem to be heading towards the Korea Strait, by Sunday evening. Presently it has gathered strength of a Category 1 storm. It is likely to weaken before making landfall, but we can still expect torrential rains accompanied by strong winds to affect the region. Halola, is said to be the 12th typhoon of this year.

Halola’s long journey across the Pacific Ocean will end very soon, but not before the storm impacts Japan and southeastern South Korea this weekend. The storm is likely to affect the entire region, beginning with the Ryuku Islands, including Okinawa and Amami.

The western Pacific has been quite active since the beginning of July. Several typhoons including Chan-hom, Linfa, Nangka and Halola affected weather in the region.

These weather systems also affected the Monsoon surge in the Bay of Bengal. The wind pattern in the Indian subcontinent was being affected, thereby, no weather system sustained energy to bring good rainfall in the first two weeks of July.

Linfa and Chan-hom made landfall in Southeast China Coast. However, Nanga made landfall in the Japanese island of Shikoku, far away from the Indian coast. Now, Halola seems to be following kind of a similar path.
