Updated on Sep 8, 2017: Hurricane Irma, which still continues to be a major hurricane has been wreaking havoc over the Caribbean and is all set to target Florida next. While the hurricane has weakened into a Cat 4 storm, it will continue to pose major threat over these regions.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Jose has now intensified into a major hurricane and has reached the Cat 3 status. Jose happens to be the third major hurricane in the Atlantic after Harvey and Irma. It is likely to threaten the Leeward islands and may threaten the region.

At present, Hurricane Jose is about 500 miles ESE of North Leeward Islands. The system is moving in a west-northwestward direction at a speed of 15-20 miles per hour. As per weather experts, the storm may strengthen further.

Jose could throttle some of the islands in the Caribbean which had been hit by Irma. Thus, a hurricane watch has been issued for both Antigua as well as Barbuda. The British Virgin Islands could also be affected by the storm. Heavy rains between three to six inches are possible.

Hurricane Katia is also nearing Mexico which has been severely affected by a massive earthquake of magnitude 8.0 on Richter scale wherein at least 15 were killed.

Hurricane warnings have been put in place for the East Coast right from Cabo Rojo to Laguna Verde in Mexico. Flash floods and mudslides are a grave possibility. Katia was about 170 miles SE of Tampico, Mexico a few hours ago and remained stationary.

Published on Sep 7, 2017: Hurricane Irma, the strongest storm in the history of Atlantic continues to wreak havoc over the Caribbean and is likely to move forward and cause some damage to Florida and other states of Southeast United States.

Now, while Irma is expected to continue being a major hurricane, two more hurricanes have formed in the Atlantic. Hurricane Jose has formed in the Atlantic, Hurricane Jose was lying about 1,140 miles east of the Lesser Antilles Islands which is located in the eastern Caribbean region.

Another one, Hurricane Katia has also been upgraded from a tropical storm and is currently in the Gulf of Mexico, about 175 miles north of Veracruz, Mexico and is moving at the speed of 5 miles/hour east-southeastwards. The storm is expected to hit Mexico as and when it moves.

Hurricane Jose, which happens to be the 10th named storm of the hurricane season this year, is expected to move towards Bermuda in a northwest direction by this weekend. While it will not have a direct impact on Southeast US unlike Irma, some damage may occur over the Leeward Islands when the storm moves forward. Leeward Islands have already been affected by Irma, thus this could be a bad news for them.

This is the first time in 7 years that there have been three active hurricanes in the Atlantic. The last time this phenomenon occurred was in between September 16 and 17, 2010.
