September 23, 2016 6:02 PM |

Storm Megi 2A tropical weather disturbance is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Saturday. The weather system has intensified into a tropical storm from a tropical depression within the last 24 hours.

The Tropical Storm Megi, will be locally named as Helen in the PAR. The system will be packed with maximum sustained winds of 65 kmph at the center with winds gusting up to 80 kmph, as have been reported by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

This storm was last seen about 1,975 kilometers to the east of Central Luzon. It was then seen moving in a westerly direction at a speed of 25 kmph. The latest reports also suggest that Megi is now lying in the western Pacific Ocean and is about 1,770 kilometers east-southeast of Taipei in Taiwan.

The national weather bureau of the Philippine also issued a thunderstorm advisory near Pasay in Metro Manila; Tanay and Antipolo in Rizal and Nasugbu in Batangas.

Looking at the weather conditions, weathermen are contemplating this system to eventually become a typhoon. With light wind shear and appropriate ocean temperatures, tropical system is likely to rapidly develop and intensify.

Heavy rains could be accompanied by damaging winds over the area. Air, rail and road traffic could be hampered. Motorists should take special precaution as visibility could be reduced due to heavy showers.
