Updated on Nov 27, 2019: Tropical Storm Kammuri is in the open waters, about 300 km southeast of Guam. The system is tracking northwestwards in the favourable waters, which means that the storm is expected to see some intensification and is expected to go to the Philippines Sea by the weekend.
Kammuri at present has winds of 85 kmph, gusting up to 105 kmph. The storm is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility around Sunday, where it will be locally named as Tisoy.
The storm is expected to intensify up till a Cat 4 Typhoon, possibly getting a little proximity with the northern parts of Philippines, including Luzon.
Published on Nov 26, 2019: The weather system which had formed in the Pacific has intensified into Tropical Storm Kammuri. The system will spare Philippines and will currently keep moving in the open waters for now, in favourable waters, gaining strength each day.
In the next 24 to 48 hours, Kammuri is expected to become a Cat 1 Typhoon, thereafter, intensifying into a Cat 2, Cat 3 and even a Cat 4 Typhoon.
As of 7 p.m. local time, Storm Kammuri was centred near Latitude 11.2 degrees north and Longitude 146.5 degrees east, about 440 km south of Saipan and 300 km southeast of Guam. The storm is moving in a west-northwest direction at a speed of Tropical Storm Kammuri is moving in a west-northwest direction.
Guam is expected has already started witnessing very strong winds with power outages in many parts of Guam. Schools in Guam are expected to remain closed as rains of 4 to 5 inches are expected overnight. The University of Guam, Guam Community College and the District Court of Guam will also remain closed and open only when all clear status is provided. A flash flood watch is also in effect for Guam as well as the rest of Marianas until Thursday morning.
