Heavy rains along with strong winds on the Egypt’s Red Sea Coast have forced the authorities to shut the seaports and highways.

The El-Sokhna, El-Adabiya, Petroleum and Port Tawfik Seaports are the four ports in Suez that are closed considering the bad weather condition that is prevailing in Egypt.

As per the Ports Authority, a state of emergency was declared due to heavy downpour and strong winds especially in six Red Sea ports in the three governorates of Suez, Red Sea and South Sinai.

In fact, torrential rains have also flooded most of the roads in the Red Sea and Upper Egypt regions on late Wednesday through early Thursday.

Following the closure of ports and heavy showers, the Suez Security Directorate also closed all El-Ain El-Sokhna due to submerging which led to traffic snarls. Moreover, heavy showers have also led to the closure of the highway between Qena and Red Sea governorate for several hours on Thursday.

However, drainage work of the submerged roads in the city of Hurghada have also been initiated by the Civil defense workers.

As torrential showers flooded the Firan Valley, a state of emergency has also been declared by the Governor in South Sinai. Cloudy skies with possibility of heavy rains are also expected to lash the country particularly the Upper Egypt. The unstable weather conditions over the country are likely to stay until Friday.
