Sunday turned out to be a stormy day for the Chicago region as the day was marked by severe storms. The storms were a result of a combination of high temperatures and an approaching storm system.

There was an incident where one of the thunderstorm produced a tornado which caused damage across the lake county late evening on Sunday. The tornado was categorized as an F-1 which is the lowest intensity. The tornado made a touchdown near Round Lake and continued till Hainesville and Grayslake before ending near Wildwood. The tornado packed a wind speed of about 145 kmph to 160 kmph with the total path of around 12 km and a maximum width of about 275 meters. The tornado blew off the roof of several buildings in its path. Warning was sounded just 20 minutes prior to the tornado strike which was not enough to get people to safer places.

This year so far a total of 26 tornadoes have made a touchdown over northern Illinois. This is way above the normal average of 10 tornadoes. Statewide 64 tornadoes have touched down as compared to the average of 54.
