Tornado and hailstorm in China kills 98, more than 800 injured

In one of a peculiar and violent turn of events, weather in China’s Jiangsu province turned deadly as tornado with hailstorm killed at least 98 people and injured 800 others.

The wind speed recorded near Yancheng city was of up to 125 kmph, early Thursday. The life-threatening weather conditions demolished various villages, damaged electricity lines and caused harm to property in the Yancheng city where around 7 million residents live.

The Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs said, “About half of those 800+ injured are in grave condition.”

‘This is one of the worst disasters ever to hit Jiangsu with one of the worst tornado to hit China in last 50 years,’ said the official press agency of the country.

According to various news reports, the search for survivors in the debris is reputedly completed, and the clean-up was now under way. This was said by the head of the provincial fire corps, Zhou Xiang.

India is no far behind in sharing some of the flood activities as Assam recently was battered with fresh floods of the Monsoon season, Read Here. During the summer monsoon season in the south of China, flooding is common. But incessant rainfall has been particularly heavy this year.

Earlier this week, floods in the south killed at least 22 people and left 20 missing.
