Dense fog played havoc in the U.K. leading to a 30-car pile-up that took one life and injured several others. The dreadful incident took place at Oxfordshire when a driver slammed into cars lining up following a 30-car pile-up at around 08:30 am on Wednesday.
The collision occurred at the A40 near Witney in Oxfordshire. Close to 15 people was severely bruised and treated on the scene while two more are in major trauma. As per the South Central Ambulance Service, the bangs occurred within one and a half mile stretch between B4047 and the A415 at Witney.
One crash happened to lead to a car backing up in traffic before a more serious crash in the middle of the traffic.
A wall of thick fog and ice is considered to be the real cause of the collision. As per the weatherman, the thick fog layer has completely congested both the left and the right views of the A40 which led to this pile-up snatching away one life and leaving two other struggle with theirs.
Road closures are also currently taking place and motorists are advised to avoid taking these areas.
As the road connects London to Wales, this pile up is expected to cause major travel interruption for people mainly traveling across the country after the Christmas break and for the forthcoming New Year. Due to the crash, the A377 in Devon was also closed at Umberleigh. Though, the road then re-opened by 12 pm.
Moreover, the heavy fog which led to travel chaos is expected to blanket the country the next day as well.
