More than 13,000 vehicles remained stranded and kept waiting for ferry transportation from Hainan region on Thursday evening. As per the local authorities, the traffic halt was because of a thick fog layer that kept on affecting ordinary ship administrations at Haikou ports.
As per the Meteorological Department, thick fog has covered Qiongzhou Strait, which joins Guangdong territory with Hainan, for the last seven days, the lengthiest period since 1951.
