Paris attack

Updated on November 16, 2015 6:00 PM (IST): The bitter truth of the terrorist Attack in Paris

A pleasant and balmy November evening, with light drizzle in parts, is the best time for a Parisian to rejuvenate in a restaurant or a terrace café. They are the liberal kind of people - tolerant and calm. They are not supporters of Ex-President Nicolas Sarkozy or popular far-right leader Marine Le Pen. They are/were people who like/liked to drink and make merry on the rue de Charonne or on the rue Bichat.

The terrorist involved in the attack on the Friday 13, November 2015, chose their targets carefully. They picked up the kind of people that the Islamic minions despise the most. They targeted people who go for gigs at the Bataclan concert hall.

It wasn’t their fault. They just wanted to make the most of a pleasant November evening at the Casa Nostra pizzeria or enjoy the first half of the international friendly between France and Germany.

The peaceful revelry of Paris has come to an end. Here’s a look…

Updated on November 16, 2015 6:00 PM (IST): Terrorist attack snatches the joy of fall in Paris

The worst terrorist attack in France over a decade has left the country shaken. A state of national emergency has been declared over the country, at a time when festivities were just around the corner. The massacre took place when Paris was lit up amidst pleasant and enjoyable weather. For many, fall is by far the city’s best season. Weekends are more enjoyable than ever once the leaves start to fall off the trees and the temperatures start taking a dip. Yes, it’s the time of the year when the nights turn even colder after a short light spell of rain.

Who knew such a fun-filled day could be doomed by firing and explosions. In this night of gun and bomb attacks in Paris, being hailed as the deadliest attacks in Europe since the 2004 Madrid bombings, more than 120 people have been killed and many more injured. People were shot dead at five restaurants and bars across Paris. The colder weather makes for the perfect excuse to swing by the bars and cafes.

The visibly shaken French President Francois Hollande, will definitely wage a ‘merciless’ fight against terrorism. But, will he be able to help the citizens celebrate an exuberant Christmas this year? Seems difficult.

In Paris, no season is as beautiful as autumn. Temperatures are perfectly cool and rainfall is mainly light. Till about the last week of November, the city will experience highs between 12 to 15°C and lows ranging between 6 to 8°C. Patchy light rainfall will continue for the next few days. But, the intensity of rain will not be much to disrupt rescue operations.

During this time, the city takes on hues of a colorful portrait. Gardens and parks look exceptionally good in shades of yellow, orange and bright red. Nevertheless, it took a while for the concert-goers to assimilate the bloody red color spilled everywhere inside the 1,500-seat Bataclan hall.

Security has been tightened, about 1,500 military personnel have been deployed across the city and residents of Paris have been asked to stay indoors. Private and public institutions including schools, museums, libraries and markets will be shut. For the first time since 1992, Disneyland Paris remained closed on Saturday.

According to official reports, seven gunmen have killed themselves with explosive vests. One was shot dead by the Paris security forces.
