Sydney's Three Week Dry Spell Ends With Flash Floods, More In Offing

March 16, 2016 5:56 PM |

FeaturedAfter searing under the hot and dry weather for three weeks straight, Sydney received a hefty amount of rainfall in the past 24 hours. Some parts of the city received 24 mm of rainfall.

This heavy rainfall has led to flash flooding in north Sydney including Syd Einfeld Drive in Bondi Junction causing delays throughout the morning peak hour.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning about wet and slippery roads for early morning drivers. The department has urged them to take “extreme care” during the wet weather.

Warragamba Dam received 18 millimetres of rain and Bilpin in the Blue Mountains was hit with 37 millimetres in half an hour.

The bureau's duty forecasters said that east of Sydney will get its fair share of rain today and tomorrow.

The cloud formation which prevailed over Sydney will move towards Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Darwin. These places will get good showers possibly by the end of this week.

But the caveat is that the temperatures are expected to reach a high of 30 degrees on Friday. Temperatures in Perth will soar to more than 40 degree Celsius.
