Sydney has been bracing extremely hot weather conditions for the past few days. So much so that temperatures have been settling well above the normal levels. Sunday was a sweltering day for the residents as maximums were above the 40-degrees in several parts of the city.
The observatory hill recorded a whopping 34.9 degrees just a little after noon which was just a little less than the 35-degree mark. The maximum temperature is likely to reach 35 degrees today as well.
Thus, there is a possibility that Sydney may break the record of witnessing a maximum of 35 degrees for ten days in a row. The last time the city observed nine days of 35 degree temperatures in a row was in the year 1895-96.
More people were seen hitting the beach on a Sunday afternoon. In fact, if numbers from various sources are to be believed, at least 30,000 people were seen at the popular Bondi beach.
Due to a steep rise in temperatures, the water demand on Sunday at 2.215 billion litres was the highest in the last 14 years. The last time such high demands were recorded was on January 29, 2003.
However, relief is expected during the next 24 to 48 hours. In fact, the possibility of a few showers on both Tuesday and Wednesday cannot be ruled out.
