Parts of tri-state area of US, comprising of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut have been battered by heavy rains on Thursday. These rains were a result of severe storms that moved over the region.
The area was however already warned against thunder, lightning, hefty showers, sturdy winds and extreme heat and humidity.
The Meteorological Department issued a tornado warning for Warren County which expired at around 3:15 p.m. (as per NYC timings). However, thunderstorms along with lightning and downpour still continued to lash the metropolitan area.
These storms played havoc by knocking down huge trees in Livingston, Morris County and other areas of New Jersey onto the homes. Residents were even asked to leave their homes to prevent any life-threatening incidents.
The lightning strike along with these storms also baffled the New Yorkers. However, as per the Meteorological Department, the weather is expected to remain warm and humid overnight. As reiterated by Storm Team 4, heat is expected to go up making the day’s temperature even soar upto 95°F.
MET Department issued a warning against the extreme heat.
This heat is expected to persist until the weekend with highs in upper 80's or 90's. The storm threat is also expected on Sunday.
