After yesterday’s nor’wester that wreaked havoc in Dhaka, over 6,500 mobile network towers went offline across Bangladesh. Moreover, Banglalink’s 1,500 sites are currently out of service.

According to reports, out of 9,000 mobile network sites, around 1,500 are out of service due to power cuts and 3,000 other sites are running on on-site generators. Nearly 50% of all network sites of all mobile operators do not have commercial power till now.

In fact, as the nor'wester lashed Dhaka and some other districts across the country yesterday evening, six people were killed, and 18 others were injured in the capital city Dhaka.

A cyclonic circulation is over Bangladesh and an anti-cyclone is over North Bay of Bengal. Therefore, we can say that both these weather systems were responsible, as the increased moisture content from Bay of Bengal enhanced the weather activities over Dhaka and adjoining areas.

Moderate to heavy rains were also witnessed over northeastern parts of the India along with parts of Bangladesh. While from tomorrow, rain intensity over Northeast India will reduce, Dhaka and more parts of Bangladesh will continue to receive good rainfall and thundershower activities.

During this time of the year, this is a common scenario in Bangladesh. It is also one of the most affected regions in terms of weather activities during the Pre-Monsoon season.
