Tropical Storm Karl is all set to become the next hurricane of the season. It is likely to approach Bermuda and will also extend up to the United States' East Coast beaches by the weekend. Karl is expected to strengthen gradually as it continues its journey in the central Atlantic Ocean throughout this week.
The image above shows the position of Karl at about 8 am Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), on Monday.
As the system moves westwards, it will enter an environment which will be favorable for gaining more strength. Accordingly, Karl could intensify into a hurricane as the week ends. Thereafter, Karl will move towards the northern parts of the Caribbean Islands.
Damaging winds and flooding rains will be confined to the open waters of the Atlantic. This could bring trouble for the shipping industry.
We can also expect rough surf and rip currents over the northern and east facing beaches from the Leeward Islands to Hispaniola and the Bahamas.
During the latter half of the week, Karl could also enter the southwestern parts of the Atlantic Ocean. According to weather models, Karl will skirt away from the United States and aim for Bermuda next weekend.
People living in Bermuda, or planning to travel there, should keep a close watch on the track and activities of Karl.
