Storm Jake in UK brings winter back, keeps Spring on hold

March 4, 2016 11:43 AM |

SnowThe first week of March that was supposed to herald Spring in UK is witnessing change in weather pattern. Storm Jake has hit parts of UK, leaving Britain shivering in a cold, wet and wintry first week of spring. UK weather misery is likely to continue as another storm is expected to bring snow sleet and freezing temperature over the approaching weekend.

Temperatures have plummeted to below freezing in parts of the Northeast of England while mercury has dipped to -2°C in Scotland.  Leeds saw the coldest night as the mercury fell to -1°C (30.2F). England, Wales and southern parts of Scotland are under threat as there could be heavy snow and sleet in next couple of days.

Bone-chilling winds from the North Pole are expected to lash to parts of UK, leaving mercury to plunge as low as -10°C. Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing point for the rest of the week.

Belfast, Edinburg and London are expected to witness plenty of showers that could lead to wintry conditions in these areas. This cold spell has come after a long wait for England and other parts of UK that have been reeling under the warmest winter in more than 100 years.
