Storm in the Atlantic to cause rough seas along eastern US on Monday

June 20, 2016 3:16 PM |

usa rough seas1An offshore storm will cause rough sea conditions along the eastern seaboard through the early part of the week. The storm has traveled along the eastern coastline through the weekend. This caused a lot of rough seas which prompted several red flag warnings.

Officials in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Duck, North Carolina warned people going to the beach to take note of all lifeguard warnings on Saturday and Sunday.

The storm will move northwards and so will the rough sea conditions. The storm is expected to have a north-northeasterly path parallel to the eastern coastline.

There is an advancing cold front that will prevent the storm and its associated moisture to affect the northeastern parts of US. However, some showers and thunderstorms along the cold front will affect parts of the region from Monday night.

The seas will become more dangerous along the coastline from Monday onwards even though the storm will be hundreds of kilometres away. The fury of the strong winds will not be felt across the coastline.

Meanwhile, an area of tropical depression has developed over southwestern Gulf of Mexico and will affect eastern Mexico on Monday night. Should the depression reach a tropical storm status it will be named Danielle.
