On and off rains were going on over Sri Lanka since last many days but the rain intensity has increased in the last 24 hours. In the past day, many parts of Sri Lanka received moderate to heavy rains. In fact, the rain intensity was more over the western parts of Sri Lanka.

However, weather of Batticaloa and Pottuvil over the East Coast of the country remained dry. In the same span of time, Maha Illuppallama recorded 11 mm, Kandy 9.3 mm, Colombo 6.8 mm and Vavuniya 54 mm of rain. These hefty rains can be attributed to a trough which was extending from a cyclonic circulation over Lakshwadeep to Sri Lanka.

As per Skymet Weather, we expect that moderate rains with one or two heavy spells will continue over the West Coast of the state. Places such as  Anuradhapura, Katunayake, Colombo, and Galle will witness rains for one or two days.

Now it is anticipated that the cyclonic circulation which was persisting over Lakshwadeep will fade gradually and hence rains will also decrease over Sri Lanka. However, the West Coast will continue to witness scattered rains thereafter also.

Weather across the country will remain warm with partly cloudy to cloudy sky. However, morning and night will be pleasant.
