Mount Etna is situated near the eastern coast of the island of Sicily, 10,926 feet tall, making it the highest volcano in mainland Europe. Etna's last major eruption was witnessed in 1992, despite the fact that the volcano can rumble to life several times a year.
Lava flows have often threatened the villages that surrounded the crater. Moreover, Mount Etna was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013.
