The year 2016 has begun on a stormy note across parts of Spain. People living in northwestern parts of Spain have been put on flood alert for the weekend. This will come after a spell of rain that will sweep across northwestern Spain on Thursday and Friday. Rainfall totals in Vigo could reach 200 mm in a span of one week.
On Saturday, the weather system will weaken gradually as it moves from the central parts to the eastern parts of the country. Madrid, Aragon and Castilla-La Mancha will experience light showers till the weekend. However, the eastern coast will witness dry weather.
In Galicia, another weather system will bring steady rainfall in the region. From Saturday morning to Sunday evening heavy rain is expected across northern Portugal and some parts of Galicia, Castile y Leon, Asturias and Cantabria. This weekend widespread heavy rainfall amounting to 75 mm is expected across northwestern Spain. Sunday will see bulk of the rain across the region. Flooding is also a major concern as the region has already witnessed bountiful rain since the New Year Day.
A brief break from the wet weather is expected on Monday. However, this break will be short lived as another spell of wet weather is expected to affect the region from Tuesday till the middle of next week.
