Chicago in United States is said to have recorded temperature as low as minus 13 degrees Fahrenheit on Monday. It was mainly reported near Chicago O’Hare Airport.
Due to these weather conditions, a Wind Chill Advisory was also in effect till late morning, as temperatures plummet to lows of minus 30 degrees. However, the temperatures returned to double digits during mid-day hours.
Due to freezing weather and snowstorms, 270 area schools were also closed. Also there were travel disruptions. Around 65 flights were cancelled at Chicago O’Hare Airport. The same problem was also faced by the commuters using the Metra line trainline.
Extreme wintry conditions were observed during the early days of December in Midwest region, with bitterly cold temperatures.
This snowstorm caused travel chaos in the Midwest. Also storm warnings were issued for some parts of the Great Lakes and the Northeast United States.
Snowfall was observed in parts of New York State, New Hampshire, Vermont, Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Rain and snow battered the Plains and parts of the South. With this, the mercury plummeted 15-30 degrees below average.
Snowstorm for Christmas weekend is increasingly expected over a wide swath of the West and Plains states, along with a wintry mix of snow, sleet or rain over parts of the Upper Midwest and Northern New England.
This likely snowstorm can be attributed to the southward plunge of the jet stream and its associated surface low-pressure system which is moving in from the Pacific Ocean.
During late hours of Saturday, snow is expected over the Northern Plains. The snow could be accompanied by strong winds, leading to low visibility and poor travel conditions.
