Snow storms hit UK, more heavy snow on way

Parts of Britain had been bashed by thunder snow which has blanketed the country with ice, sleet and hails. However, forecasters warn against heavier snowfall late the weekend.

The snow storm that has created a chaos across the UK specially creating havoc for Brits with temperatures plunging to zero degrees.

The Met Office and Environment Agency have flashed several flood and frost warnings, advising Britons to stay cautious against the dropping temperatures as temperatures tonight are set to plummet to a freezing -6°C.

Experts have also warned against heavy thunder snow storms that could block the road and rail networks. Thunder snow storms are defined as normal thunderstorms but with snow rather than rain.

The lowest temperatures as on Thursday night was in Braemar in the Scottish Highlands which recorded -7.2°C. Though more extreme weather is likely to continue until the weekend.

The Meteorological Department has already issued flood alerts for 37 areas across the country with many more expected. A yellow weather warning for ice has also been issued by the Met Office for North West England, areas of Scotland, Northern Ireland, and the Midlands.

Some showers are also expected to lash the western and north-western areas which could fall as snow on hills. Strong winds along with hefty downpour is expected to continue to hit England and Wales from Sunday till Tuesday.

The weather condition prevailing in the Britain can be made out from the fact that a FlyBe plane flying from Manchester to Amsterdam was diverted back to the airport due to a lightning strike on Friday.
