After a scorching weekend the temperatures will drop by more than 10°C across Germany this week. This is due to the jet stream that will shift southwards across central Europe. This will result in cool air plunging into Germany also triggering showers and thunderstorms.
In Berlin the temperature rose to 32°C on Sunday however, the temperature is expected to record close to 21°C on Wednesday. The maximum temperatures will range between 17°C and 19°C from Hamburg to Cologne and southward to Stuttgart and Munich.
Widespread severe weather is not likely on Wednesday however, locally damaging winds and hail is possible with the strongest thunderstorms. The maximum threat from these storms is across the south and east, this includes Munich, Berlin and Dresden. These storms will be slow moving which will increase the risk of flash flooding. The rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday will keep the water levels of rivers and streams high. People have been advised not to drive through flooded roads instead just turn around and avoid drowning.
The weather will turn warmer and more seasonal from Friday into the weekend. This is great news for those people attending the Kölner Lichter, the Kilianai festival or Melt! Festival.
