Sierra Nevada gets snow at last

March 2, 2015 3:38 PM |

cal snowSouthwestern parts of North America received snow on consecutive days as a winter storm moved across parts of California and brought some much needed precipitation towards the end of last week. Some parts on New Mexico experienced record breaking snowfall on Friday and Saturday and it was expected to continue over the weekend. Albuquerque and Santa Fe received snow at the rate of one inch per hour for several hours since Friday, bringing the two cities to a halt, as four to ten inches of snow has accumulated. The harsh wintery weather has brought along driving problems and a spate of accidents, but the problem was under control by Saturday evening.

Meanwhile Nevada ski-resorts were getting a much awaited dose of snow. The snowfall started in Sierra Nevada on Friday evening and nearly 12-18 inches of snow has been received by the ski-resorts situated at 8000 to 10000 feet. The Sugar Bowl ski-resort near Donner Summit experienced up to nearly two feet of snow by Saturday evening. The storm also caused scattered showers as it moved across central and southern parts of California.

The snowfall is likely to continue on Monday when up to a foot of snow was witnessed which is a welcome sign as a prolonged spell of dry weather had some ski-resorts thinking about winding up.
