Showers and thunderstorms to affect UK midweek

A spell of showers and thunderstorms will move across the UK on Wednesday and Thursday and will threaten the much-awaited golf games and horse races.

The first of these storm systems will start affecting weather on Wednesday, this will result in scattered showers and thunderstorms in Wales, the Midlands and southern England. Most of the thunderstorms will affect during the afternoon hours. However, some might stretch into the evening and will result in traffic problems during rush hour.

The second storm system will cause torrential rain across Northern Ireland and northern England on Thursday, while it will cause another spell of wet weather across Wales, the Midlands and southern England. Few storms could lead to flash flooding across southern England including Greater London.

The rain could affect the opening round of the Northern Ireland Open, in Ballymena on Thursday. While major threat will be on Thursday, more showers will continue to affect Friday till Sunday.

This unsettled weather will also affect the Women’s British Open in Woburn on Thursday through Sunday. Most of the stormy weather will take place during the afternoon on each of the days.

The Qatar Goodwood Festival running till Saturday is also at risk. Showers and thunderstorms are predicted to hamper the day on Wednesday for the Qatar Sussex Stakes and then again on Thursday for the Ladies Day. While some wet weather can’t be ruled out on Friday and Saturday but both the days will be mainly dry.
