Severe Typhoon Doksuri kills 1 in Vietnam, most powerful storm in 10 years

Typhoon Doksuri, which is the most powerful storm to have hit Vietnam in the past ten years has wreaked havoc over the region. So much so that around tens of thousands of residents were evacuated from the coastal areas of Vietnam.

Doksuri made landfall in Ha Tinh province where six districts in the coastal areas were affected with roofs of over 60,000 homes being destroyed.

Close to 80,000 people have left their homes while trees have been torn down by authorities and power outage has also been witnessed in a few areas as Typhoon Doksuri made way towards land. As per the Hong Kong observatory, wind speed up to 100 mph has been reported in the area.

While the wind speed had slowed down at the time of landfall, at least 50,000 houses have suffered some damage. Along with this, trees, electrical lines and billboards have reported to be knocked down.

Around four fishing boats have also been reported to have sunk. Due to floods caused by heavy rains in the region, reports of a person drowning have also been doing rounds.

Vietnam is a flood prone area where at least hundreds are killed every year due to Typhoons and floods caused by heavy rains.
