Thunderstorms are likely to lash southeast parts of Queensland during this afternoon for the third consecutive day.
Due to these severe weather conditions, watch and warnings has been issued for two storm fronts, one near the NSW border and the other over the Somerset region moving easterly towards the Sunshine Coast.
The forewarning is for the residents of the Gold Coast, Toowoomba, Somerset, Scenic Rim and South Burnett council areas.
Heavy rain, large hailstones and destructive winds are likely as two storms make their way northeast towards the coast.
Another thunderstorm alert has been given for the Wide Bay and Burnett, Darling Downs and Granite Belt.
As per weatherman, the storm moving across the Queensland and NSW border was the strongest of the two. It was expected to extend across the southeast during the afternoon, with the possibility to hit Brisbane.
The potential is certainly there in the next few hours.
Around 3:50 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Murwillumbah (NSW), the McPherson Range, Springbrook and Moore. These thunderstorms are seen moving towards the northeast. They are anticipated to affect Coolangatta, the area west of Kilcoy, Miami and Mudgeeraba by 4:20 pm and Southport, Mount Kilcoy, waters off South Stradbroke Island and the ranges south of Jimna by 4:50 pm.
The storms follow another day of hot and humid day for the southeast region, with the possibility of severe storms during late afternoon.
Brisbane recorded a maximum temperature of 31.3 °C, almost two degrees above average. Coolangatta reached a top of 26.2 °C, while the Sunshine Coast recorded a high of 28.7 °C.
