Severe thunderstorms expected over parts of Cape Town

Relentless thunderstorms are likely to lash the Eastern Cape eastern escarpment along with the western parts of KwaZulu-Natal and places over the Western Bushveld on Wednesday night.

These thunderstorms are likely to move towards the central and eastern Free State along with eastern parts of the North West, Mpumalanga highveld, Gauteng and southern parts of Limpopo.

OR Tambo has already been affected by various flash floods on Wednesday, submerging the roads to airports as well. Though in no time, were these flood affected roads were open for easy access and the flight schedules were back to normal.

As per the weatherman, torrential showers are still expected to make their appearance over the extreme eastern parts of the Free State, western parts of KZN and the southern parts of Mpumalanga from the evening.

Whereas the areas like south coast between Cape Agulhas and PE can presume a 60% chance of rain. More rains are likely on Friday and Saturday along the south and east coasts. Weather is likely to warm up towards the north on Thursday with very hot conditions prevailing in the Northern Cape and North West.

Johannesburg in Gauteng is expected to witness a soaring high of 32°C on Thursday while Pretoria will witness the maximums of 36°C and Bloemfontein in the Free State will scale up to 29°C.

Cape Town my witness the maximum temperatures settling at a rising 25°C. Other areas along the coast including Port Elizabeth may witness temperatures soaring at 22°C and Durban may reach 21°C.
