Severe thunderstorm threat remains over Queensland

Thousands of homes in Southeast Queensland have been left without power after a severe storm swept the region this afternoon. More than 4,700 homes are currently affected, including 3,156 in the suburbs around Brisbane city, 778 in the Moreton Bay area and around 760 in the Logan region. Other affected areas include the Gold Coast, Ipswich, and Somerset.

A severe weather warning has been issued for the region including Brisbane, which is also in the firing line now. The line of storm cell stretches from Caboolture to Logan, including Strathpine, Albany Creek, Lake Samsonvale, Kallangur, Narangba and Burpengary. After this, the storm cell will move to Brisbane, Redcliffe, Brighton, Scarborough, Deception Bay and Beachmere. There are chances of large hail that could accompany this storm cell.

The storm will continue to move eastwards and hail is likely but, it is difficult to say where the hail will fall and if it will fall at all. Warnings are in place for Brisbane, Ipswich, Moreton Bay, Beenleigh, Caboolture, Toowoomba, Kingaroy, Caloundra, Taroom, Yarraman, Gayndah and Mundubbera.

Small hail has been reported around Esk, Wivenhoe, Mcdowall (north of Brisbane), Bray Park, North Lakes, Mount Ommaney area, West End and Oxley. Light to moderate rain has been recorded in places like Atkinson Dam (25mm), Bellview Bay (18mm) and Fullham (14mm).
