Severe storms to hit northwest and Midwest USA

September 5, 2015 4:05 PM |

thundSevere thunderstorms are likely to hit the Midwest while strong winds will impact the northwestern region of USA during the weekend. A storm system will be coming from the Rockies to the northern plains over the weekend and merge with the already existing band of stormy weather across the upper Midwest and northwestern region.

People who are travelling in this region will have to deal with dangerous road conditions. Weather related delays are expected on the I-15, 29, 35, 80, 90 and 94 freeways during the weekend. The conditions are very favourable for development of strong thunderstorms as there is a lot of moisture and warmth. This moisture will fuel the intensity of the thunderstorms. The main threats are strong winds, heavy downpours and some hail. Some of the downpours could lead to flash floods and cause power outages due to downed power lines and fallen trees.

The cities which are in the line of fire of these storms on Saturday are Bismarck and Fargo, North Dakota; Aberdeen and Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Alexandria and Bemidji, Minnesota; and Norfolk, Nebraska. This activity will shift eastwards on Sunday and the spell of thunderstorms will shift from northern Missouri to southern Ontario.

Sunday’s major activity will be experienced by cities like Duluth and Minneapolis, Minnesota; Green Bay and Madison, Wisconsin; Des Moines and Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Maryville, Missouri; Omaha, Nebraska; and Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Next week will see settled weather with seasonal temperatures across the region.
