Damaging and dangerous thunderstorms will shift eastwards on Wednesday and will affect from central Mississippi Valley to the Gulf Coast.
As the storm system tracks eastwards the risk of severe weather and tornadoes will also move east. This will bring more risk of lives and property to the eastern areas.
On Wednesday the risk of severe weather will extend along more than 1300 km long stretch from southern Iowa and central Illinois to northeastern Texas and coastal areas of Louisiana and Mississippi. During this time isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out. The main threat from these storms will be in the form of damaging winds, large hail and possibly some flash flooding. The cities that will be in the firing line include St. Louis; Houston; Memphis, Tennessee; Jackson, Mississippi; Little Rock, Arkansas; New Orleans and Shreveport, Louisiana.
Even though tornadoes will not be as much widespread on Wednesday as on Tuesday night, severe weather will affect more densely populated locations. During Wednesday night these storms will start weakening and become isolated. Storms might re-emerge on Thursday and Friday across the southeastern states. Only localized severe weather is expected to occur on these days.
People in the region have been advised to take precautionary measures in case of thunderstorms. They have been told never to stand under a tree or drive out in the storm, move indoors away from windows and doors as the storm approaches.
